About Us
The Pleasant Ridge Camp & Retreat Center is owned and operated by the Greenville County Recreation District. This facility was built based on a belief that everyone deserves a place to go to camp regardless of their physical or mental condition. When you book your next special event with us, not only will you have a great time in a beautiful setting, your support will benefit our mission related programs like Camp Spearhead and Camp Courage.
Camp Spearhead
Camp Spearhead was created in 1968 to provide camping experiences for youth and adults with special needs and disabilities. Camp Spearhead began as a program of the Department of Special Needs & Disabilities. In 2006, they asked the Greenville County Recreation District to take over the program. The facility Camp Spearhead leased for many years was sold and Camp Spearhead needed a new and permanent home. Through local and state funding, grants, partnerships, and individual contributions, Camp Spearhead’s new home is a reality at the Pleasant Ridge Camp & Retreat Center.
